Hibernation is a new series of photographs documenting Wisconsin Dells, the “waterpark capital of the world” which is virtually abandoned every winter. The preliminary images portray the people who are left behind, who often have resigned themselves to predictable lives and fill their days with idle pastimes. The series reveals the deep roots people put down, the ways that they inherit and perpetuate long family traditions, and the tragic emptiness when those traditions are neglected.
