Jason Vaughn Art

BIO

Jason Vaughn has a unique photographic style that resonates through the image and into the heart of the viewer. His work centers around single subjects who unwittingly reveal their darkest emotions to the camera. In his initial works, Vaughn assembled images that addressed the separation of a person’s secret self and public self. He continues to explore these themes, but has also branched out into the physical self and worldlier images. With his hugely successful one-man show in May of 2007, titled Space and the Human Condition, Vaughn attempted to capture the scope of the human condition in a single work. He accomplished this with an ambitious series of images, grouped into clusters, with each taking a thematic view on one of the nine planets. The show demonstrated Vaughn’s roots in street art, graffiti, and photojournalism, while also illustrating his capacity to transcend his influences and forge new artistic ground. In his new work, Vaughn's photographic palette ranges from gritty to polished, realistic to symbolic, vivid to vacant. His subjects include Midwestern housewives as well as Los Angeles drag queens. But as a whole, Vaughn's images reflect the world as he himself sees it - poignant, surprising, and tragically beautiful.

Jason has been published in Alternative Press, Electronic Musician, Filter Magazine, Campus Circle, American Gothic and other nationally distributed publications. He has shot for Universal Records, Interscope, Def Jam, Island, Geffen, Astralwerks, RCA, Sub Pop, and others.
