back from a dream

Doesn't this photograph look like a dream? It reminds me of My Own Private Idaho in the setting, but like some technicolor sequence because of the rich sky, the grass. I saw Pan's Labyrinth this weekend and it definitely earned the cinematography Oscar. I think the movie captured the essence of why I do this blog, and why I love pictures like this: it's a fantasy life that you can step into, and it's there whenever you need it.

back to the grind

Ahhh, three-day weekends are the best. It's rough coming back. It feels kind of like this picture - standing at the top of a long descent.

But how negligent of me - all this blogging and I never put in my two cents about the Grammys! I thought one of the best parts was the John Legend, Corinne Bailey Rae, and John Mayer segment. All of them are so talented! I had heard all of their music before, but seeing it in this way made it really stand out to me. And is anyone else sick of the Red Hot Chili Peppers? Enough already, I'm over you! I saw an article on Spin.com that said the music industry just needs to start putting out better records so that people will start buying music again. Seems a little naive. What have you heard lately that you like?

Presidents Day

I didn't watch any CNN today, but I did think a little about politics. Well, less about politics than about what I'm going to do over the three-day weekend. Which got me thinking about President's Day and what this silly holiday is all about anyway. Remembering great men of the past, honoring America and it's traditions...so when I saw this photo how could I not put it up, based solely on it's ironic value?

Girls to the left

Oh, here it comes. Valentine's Day is a few hours away, and you can feel the anxiety in the air. Either you're alone and freaking out (stressful), alone and acting casual about it (suspicious), dating and acting casual about it (that's my situation - no flowers or candlelight in my future), or dating and doing some sappy Valentine's Day hoo-hah (sweet, but boring). I guess it's anti-Hallmark, and probably anti-American in some bizarre way, but I like to celebrate love every day of the year. That's romance to me.

This picture definitely has the same undertones as Valentine's Day. I like that it's so accidental - some motel owner in the midwest probably painted the doors without thinking, but somehow they actually created art.

satire outrage?

I don't know about all this outrage over the "Rape Only Hurts if you Fight It" article published in the CCSU paper last week. I'm definitely a feminist (yes, I've been called a femi-nazi more than once) but even I can take a joke. Do none of these people ever read the Onion? How come the Onion can get away with all of the stuff they write(readily available on college campuses) but this one article caused such an uproar? I guess I'm a traitor to the cause, but I think people need to lighten up. Or find a hobby.

In light of all that, when I saw this picture it took on a different story. It had always just looked kind of sweet and innocent to me, but after watching coverage of the story on CNN, it looks a little like a stalking-in-progress.

I can't say anything about this picture - the whole story is laid out right on the table...

little red corvette

After the Superbowl show yesterday, I was inspired to post this picture. I love how the landscape is all bland and run down, and the car is so bright and shiny.

no groundhogs today

I looked for a picture of a groundhog, but the closest was this little guy, who I had already posted about a while ago:

So I'm going with an image that just makes me smile. Jason shot this in an old abandoned house:
