an abandoned bike

This picture looks so story-esque to me. Like it would be in a magazine piece on Amber alerts and missing children. But I think the actual story behind the photo is much happier the bike's owner was only a few feet away.

happy little men

I always like to put up something that made me smile, for the weekend. And this picture made me smile...

so tough being a kid

I absolutely adore this photograph. The actual photo just looks dramatic to me, being in black and white, and the way the room is kind of bendy. But then the little girl has so much personality, and I totally remember feeling exactly that way when I was a kid.

Stranger than the midwest

I absolutely adore pictures like this. It reminds me of that movie "Stranger than Paradise," the one directed by Jim Jarmusch. It's in black and white, and so everything feels like it's from a different time. That's how this picture feels to me - like it's from a time when things were simpler and happier, and people vacationed at places like the Flamingo Motel.

da boyz

This photo made me smile. These three guys are going up an escalator, and one is clearly striking his "cool" pose for the camera. I love how a camera brings this out of people. Over Christmas I was with my little cousins and they already do it too - turn into absolute divas for that split second when the shutter opens. It's classic.

married bliss

I saw this picture and totally had to smile. This is apparently what 55 years of marriage will do to you. I'm not sure if you can see the woman's face clearly on the computer screen, but she looks just defeated, and the man looks cranky as hell.

remembering

Since it's a memorial weekend, I thought this picture would be appropriate. It kind of looks like it could be a miniature, like it's fake in a way. But I just like the thought of being remembered.

the lonely life

This is truly the life of an artist - solitary, transient, and a little shameless...

a mid-week smile

I couldn't resist posting this today. Everyone needs a silly laugh in the middle of the week. I'd like to point out that the framing and colors actually make it a very professional photograph, but I just can't get beyond the subject matter...

wandering

I'm in the process of breaking my new year's resolutions already, and this picture kind of captures the way it feels: a dull resignation...

transported

Wow, I absolutely love photographs like this. For a brief second, when you look at it, you live another life. I know it wears off after a few moments, and you start to ask rational questions about the photo, but it's that first second that I love, when you live in a place with wood paneling and patterned couches, with people who aren't quite sure if they're happy or not...

We are voyeurs

I've been a little creeped out lately at how many people want to see someone get hanged. I guess it's the same as rubbernecking, and ultimately I'm learning that we're all voyeurs, more so depending on the gruesomeness of the scene.

So I chose this photo to kick off the new year. It looks a little seedy and voyeuristic to me, and also kind of spontaneous and fun, which is what I'm hoping 2007 will be...

Shameful, shameful

Gosh, ever since Thanksgiving I have been completely neglecting this blog. Well, those days are over. I'm back to blogging, Happy New Year everyone. It may be a few days before I get blog photos from Jason for the new year, but I will definitely start up my daily photo blog again soon.

Until then, I'll just try to regale everyone with my "Top 10 CDs of the Year" - this impossible list that my work has us do every year. I can never come up with 10 records I liked, so I threw other stuff in. Feedback hesitantly welcomed :-)

1. TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
2. Shiny Toy Guns - We Are Pilots
3. KT Tunstall - Eye to the Telescope
4. Divisible - The Alchemy EP
5. Heroes
6. Green Leaves vegan restaurant on Hillhurst
7. This American Life finally doing podcasts

and my guilty pleasures:
8. My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
9. Blue October - Foiled
10. Go Fug Yourself
