Stranger than the midwest

I absolutely adore pictures like this. It reminds me of that movie "Stranger than Paradise," the one directed by Jim Jarmusch. It's in black and white, and so everything feels like it's from a different time. That's how this picture feels to me - like it's from a time when things were simpler and happier, and people vacationed at places like the Flamingo Motel.

I absolutely love it! Being a native, I mean really native, Floridian, the pink Flamingo is my childhood.... gravel yards littered with sea oats, seedy motels with window units humming, terrazza floors scattered with sand...
I can almost hear the neon signs blinking.....
"Vacancy".....

Somehow, I am reminded of Las Vegas and... Florida.

That sign reminds me of my place of birth (I refuse to call it my hometown). The simpler times you speak of are alive and well there, not the good kind though. Sorry to be a downer but this picture brings to mind an extremely jacked up period of my life, that is, 1960 to 1989. A perfect example of the power that pictures have to commandeer your train of thought.

Funny...how different all of our minds work. I too am a native Floridian & it should remind me of the great sunshine state & all of it's tourist...but it actually reminds me of a rob zombie film? LOL.
