Terrorized, in a sense

I feel like this photo today.

Garage

In the spirit of destruction, I've decided, for fun, to see if my job qualifies as a terrorist cell.

"Terrorism, n : the calculated use of violence (or threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear."

1. calculated - YES, they call it the payroll department.
2. threat of violence - YES, if you count the physical harm that would come to me if I were unemployed and living on the street.
3. against civilians - YES. Innocent civilians squandering their lives on a paycheck.
4. to attain goals - GOOD LORD, YES - that's the mantra around here.
5. ideological in nature - YES, they call it "corporate business practices."
6. intimidation, coercion, fear - YES, YES, YES.

Should I tell the FBI?

I think the highest form of rebellion in those situations is joy, in some strange way, just celebrating in the face of it.

I listened to Baroque Cello pieces performed by YoYoMa yesterday while editing a database and I was so far away from the glare of the screen.

But then you have to ask, how do you REALLY get out. Because an attitude is a great start, but why are we doing all this in the first place? I totally agree.

I met a plastic surgeon's son the other day. As he described it, his father is the happiest he's ever seen him mowing the yard on this rural property they own.

Maybe we have to torture ourselves - terrorize even - with this way of living just to work back the thirst for the things we evolved away from - and now they are our joy?

As in, how hard our forebearers worked to get "off" the land and now that's what people crave.

So it goes. Best wishes surviving the corporate terror.
